Trooper First Class Duke Sawyer was investigating a single-car crash on the interstate when he was alerted by multiple cars blowing their horns behind the scene of the investigation.

Sawyer turned and quickly found the source of the commotion: two German Shepherds - one black, one brindle in color - that were darting between the southbound lanes of traffic on I-95, according to a Maryland State Police spokesperson.

Sawyer was able to quickly and safely rein in the dogs in the right shoulder of the interstate, and while the dogs had no identifying tags, both were wearing collars and in good health, police said.

While keeping both dogs safe, Sawyer completed his accident investigation and waited for members of the Harford County Animal Control to arrive at the scene to take the dogs into their custody.

Both dogs were safely transported to the Harford Humane Society to be reunited with their family.
